When we moved in to our new house three years ago, we were very happy. Compared to living in a rented house for nine years knowing that that house will never be yours, having your own house is simply a dream come true. We stayed in that house for more than nine years and we have accumulated a lot of things over the years - furniture, appliances, clothes, children’s toys, and a lot more.
The new house was really a breath of fresh air. It twice the size of the one we stayed in for nine years. There are bigger bedrooms, a larger kitchen, and a bigger dining room. We were finally going to get ourselves a real dining table. For nine years we were actually eating our dinner on a plastic foldable table!
One of primary concerns was where to keep and store all the things we have acquired over the years. We thought the new house will have enough space because it was bigger. Surprisingly, the storage was not enough! After putting all things in the appropriate places like the clothes in the closet, pots and pans in the kitchen, there were still a lot of ‘junk’ lying on the floor.
The closets and cabinets were not enough. The bookshelves were not enough. The cupboard was not enough. So where else can we store our things? A perfect solution to our problem was an under counter drawer.
The house has some underutilized counters. Why not use the empty space underneath them as storage space. Under counter drawer is a perfect thing. The counter top will already serve as the top of the drawers, and the supports of the counter can be used as frames of the under counter drawer. It’s a cinch.
Under counter drawers was a solution to our problems. So my wife and I went to the nearest home appliance, hardware, and depot store to look for under counter drawer. We were floored. It was simply amazing. There were a lot to choose from. There were non-finished drawers made of wood. There were semi-finished drawers also made of wood. There were finished drawers, too. If wood is not your style, there under counter drawers made of aluminum and light steel. Drawers are not the only thing available, there are many under counter drawer mounting brackets to choose from.
If you plan on making your own under counter drawer, check the available brackets available. They come in standards sizes and lengths. Getting the right one is very important. Measure the depth of the space you are going to attach the under counter drawer then get the mounting bracket that would fit the depth. Allowance in needed so that the thickness of the wood of the face of the drawer will fit snugly. If you unsure about the right mounting bracket, ask the service professional about getting the right one.
Under counter drawer really add a lot of space. It worked in my home. There is still a lot of ‘junk’ and unsorted things around the house, but the under counter drawer helped in lessening the clutter.
